Nursing in pandemic analyzed through a labour trajectory

The COVID-19 pandemic brought to the fore the nurses’ irreplaceable role within health system, work which at the same time was traditionally invisibilized. Given its notorious centrality, we intend to explore the life story of a nurse with almost thirty years of experience who works in a public hospital in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Argentina. A personal trajectory is taken to analyze from it her professional history in her transit between the nursing profession and professionalization, together with the class relations that are manifested in this labor sector. Then, we explore the links and acknowledgments that other professions in the health sector have with and about nursing, the sensations and repercussions of working in the pandemic, and the personal exposure that this particular situation entailed. The personal trajectory is recovered based on a structured interview carried out within the framework of a PISAC COVID-19 project, which we also cross-referenced with legislation, statistical information from public databases, interviews and a national survey carried out within the same project.
