La religión y su relación con las decisiones al final de la vida: encuesta de opinión a población general

La iglesia católica condena el suicidio asistido y la eutanasia, sin embargo, está en contra de la obstinación terapéutica, es decir, el prolongar dolor y sufrimiento a los enfermos en fase terminal. Actualmente se pueden ver cambios en la forma de pensar de los cristianos frente al tema de las decisiones al final de la vida. Se llevó a cabo un estudio cuantitativo observacional, descriptivo, transversal. Se aplicó una encuesta de opinión a 802 personas de la población general con una representatividad a nivel nacional, el margen de error fue de +/-3.46% con un nivel de confianza del 95%. Los principales resultados muestran que el 45.3% de los cristianos están totalmente de acuerdo en que los enfermos terminales tengan derecho a solicitar la muerte, 35.2 % están de acuerdo con el suicidio asistido, el 73.9% están de acuerdo en que se legalice la eutanasia. La opinión de las personas tanto de la religión cristiana como sin religión muestra una tendencia favorable hacia la muerte médicamente asistida. Estos hallazgos pueden indicar que las personas están de acuerdo con una muerte digna, es decir, sin dolor ni sufrimiento.
